The Visitor Economy program presented by Skilling the Bay

The World of Work program provides meaningful immersion experiences for senior secondary students in trending and growing industries in our region. With the significant impact of the visitor economy to Geelong’s prosperity, STB, along with industry stakeholders, have identified the need to promote the varied and extensive career opportunities available within this sector. The visitor economy offers a large variety of careers across the industry and has many entry-level roles available to young people.

Aims of the program

  • To inspire and engage Year 9, 10 and 11 students in the world of work and to raise awareness of post-school pathways opportunities.
  • To raise awareness of the extensive roles and careers available within the region's Visitor Economy.

Program highlights

Embark on an exceptional journey with Skilling the Bay's World of Work Visitor Economy immersive four-day program. Explore a myriad of roles and careers presented by amazing venues while indulging in delicious snacks. Immerse yourself in a learning experience that unveils the diverse array of pathways and opportunities within the visitor economy.

Step behind the scenes of fabulous venues in Geelong and the Bellarine and witness their inner workings. Discover the secrets of their seamless operations and unlock a world of diverse career opportunities.

Anticipate unforgettable moments, insightful encounters, and a treasure trove of knowledge that will shape your future.

Program format

  • Students experience a variety of industry workplaces over four days.
  • Host organisations will provide an introduction and overview of the organisation, a panel of employees to discuss their career journey, opportunity for a group activity or roundtable discussions and a site tour of work areas.
  • A module runs for 1 day (between 9.00am and 2.30pm) with industry partners hosting a morning or afternoon session (2 to 2.5hrs duration).

Important notes for schools:

  • The expectation is that students complete all modules in the World of Work programs.
  • The programs are capped for student numbers, and early registrations will take priority.
  • Students will need to make their own transport arrangements to and from the arranged meeting point per program, at the specified time which will be advised on confirmation of the student's registration.
  • Programs generally run between 9.00 am to 3.00pm.
  • May require commitment of a teaching resource from participating schools to attend/assist on tour days.
  • Schools can be subsidised CRT costs to enable a supervising teacher to attend.
