Creative Industries program from Skilling the Bay

The World of Work program provides meaningful immersion experiences for senior secondary students in trending and growing industries in our region.

Geelong is a place where creativity and design drive an exceptional quality of life for our community. A wonderful array of events are captured each year through exhibitions, webinars and virtual reality demonstrations showcasing Geelong’s excellence as an innovative, smart, clever and creative city.

The Creative Industries program will present the variety of careers across the industry and the entry-level roles available to young people.

Aims of the program

  • To inspire and engage Year 9, 10 and 11 students in the world of work and to raise awareness of post-school pathways opportunities.
  • To raise awareness of the extensive roles and careers available within the region's Creative Industries

Get ready for an extraordinary experience with Skilling the Bay’s immersive four-day program. We’ll embark on an exhilarating journey through Geelong’s most iconic creative destinations!

As you explore these remarkable places, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with professionals who will share their personal journeys, unveiling a multitude of roles and careers you might never have imagined. Learn from seasoned professionals and mentors who have already carved their paths in these fields.

Program format

  • Students experience a variety of industry workplaces over three days.
  • Host organisation may wish to provide an introduction and overview of the organisation, a panel of employees to discuss their career journey, a group activity or roundtable discussions and a site tour of work areas.
  • A module runs for 1 day (between 9.30am and 3.30pm) with industry partners hosting a morning or afternoon session (2 to 2.5 hours duration).

Delivered by Skilling the Bay

Important notes for schools:

  • The expectation is that students complete all modules in the World of Work programs.
  • The programs are capped for student numbers, and early registrations will take priority.
  • Students will need to make their own transport arrangements to and from the arranged meeting point per program, at the specified time which will be advised on confirmation of the student's registration.
  • Programs generally run between 9.00 am to 3.00 pm.
  • May require commitment of a teaching resource from participating schools to attend/assist on tour days.
  • Schools can be subsidised CRT costs to enable a supervising teacher to attend.
