Building positive futures at 2024 Scholarship Evening

2024-09-05

The Gordon’s 2024 Scholarship Evening celebrated community and educational empowerment during a vibrant ceremony held at GMHBA Stadium last week.

This year, with the support from its generous benefactors, The Gordon proudly awarded scholarships to 53 students, distributing a total of $110,300 to support their educational journeys.

The Gordon’s Scholarships, ranging in value from $500 to $5000, are dedicated to empowering students to reach their educational goals, while showcasing their passion, commitment, skills, leadership and innovation.

These scholarships are key to nurturing, encouraging and assisting students while they complete their qualifications, develop their life skills, cultivate career ambitions, and embark on a lifetime of learning.

Hayley Redfern, an Animal Care student and recipient of the $5000 George Alexander Foundation Scholarship, shared her heartfelt gratitude at the event, describing The Gordon’s Scholarship Program as “life-changing”.

“This scholarship has made such a positive impact on my mental health throughout this year’s studies. It has been a consistent reminder that someone out there sees potential in me”, she said.

CEO Joe Ormeno, who spoke at the event, highlighted the program’s success in preparing students for their careers and skilling the local workforce.

“We’ve seen over 80% of recipients in specific programs transition to fulfilling careers with their sponsoring organisations. This outcome exemplifies the profound impact our partnerships have on shaping students' futures”, he said.

Mr Ormeno also commented on the global significance of the scholarships and the importance of accessible education.

“Education has a life-changing and transformative impact on young lives, enabling them to meet challenges, surpass expectations and contribute to our nation’s future. We believe in empowering everyone, regardless of their background, to contribute to a brighter economic future for all.”
