Partnerships

Northern Futures

The partnership between Northern Futures and The Gordon is now in its sixth year. The program assists individuals at risk of, or experiencing, long-term unemployment to re-engage in vocational education and training, with the aim of transitioning to employment. The Gordon is the primary training provider and is also represented on the Steering Committee, providing a strategic perspective on education and training needs for the region. Local employers demonstrate their ongoing commitment to the program by providing traineeships to students as an employment pathway. This program has consistently delivered exceptional outcomes.

Whittington Works

The Whittington Works alliance brings together residents, businesses, government and local organisations to develop solutions to education, training and employment challenges in the 3219 postcode. The Gordon has been a long-term training partner of the program, which focuses on industries experiencing skills and/or labour shortages

Northern Bay Guarantee

The Northern Bay Guarantee is a two-year partnership between Viva Energy, Northern Bay College, Northern Futures, Deakin University, and The Gordon. The program aims to assist young, single parents in the northern suburbs of Geelong to secure a job or educational pathway, after completing a nationally accredited training program at The Gordon.

Operation Newstart

Operation Newstart is an innovative re-engagement program for young people aged 14-17 attending Victorian State Secondary schools, who are experiencing educational risk. Eight students enter each program working alongside a teacher/coordinator and other professionals. The program provides a multi-layered intervention, focusing on the young person’s relationship with self, family, school and community. Each program runs for a school term, with students attending school for 1-2 days each week and Operation Newstart for 3-4 days. During the program, students visit The Gordon for taster days, presentations and tours to provide an insight and first-hand experience of trades training.

Hanwha

The Gordon signed a MOU with Hanwha Defense Australia in May to deliver their manufacturing workforce. Hanwha won the tender for LAND 8116, a $0.9 billion to $1.3 billion project which will see the Commonwealth acquire self-propelled artillery systems to be manufactured in Geelong. A large number of specialised roles across manufacturing and engineering are required to deliver the project. In conjunction with Hanwha, The Gordon will undertake a thorough analysis of training needs to determine the learning and development requirements to build and sustain a skilled local workforce.

The Brainary

After signing a MoU with The Gordon in 2018, Geelong creator and founder of The Brainary, Hugh Kingsley, engaged The Gordon to help design artwork to brand the international board game, The Human Rights Game. This design process included several prototypes of the box, playing board, playing cards and instruction manual. Initially tested in Geelong and US based schools, the game is now available from the United Nations in New York.

G4S Custodial Services

The Gordon is the official training provider of G4S; the world’s leading integrated security company. Their vision is to safeguard the welfare and prosperity of millions of people worldwide, helping to create safer and better environments in which people live and work. G4S is now part of the Allied Universal Group (USA ownership), delivering security and custodial services across 90+countries.

Up to 60 correctional officers will be trained by the Institute each year through a blended delivery mode comprising of online tutorials, face-to-face onsite training and self-paced learning.
