How to apply

There are six steps to apply and enrol in a course at The Gordon

If you’re an international student, living overseas the process is slightly different. Please find your course and learn how to apply.

Step 1: Before you start

Before you start your application, you’ll need to find a course that’s right for you. Take the time to read the information on the course page, so you know what to expect. If you’re not sure which course is right for you, our Careers team can help.

Step 2: Prepare documents

You’ll need to get a few documents ready to submit along with your application. These will verify your identity and help us assess your eligibility for government funding.

Green ID verifies your proof of citizenship Apply for Green ID.
 
Unique Student Identifier (USI) is needed for new or continuing students when enrolling in nationally recognised training in Australia Apply for a USI or find your USI
 
Concession card discounts are offered to students studying Certificate I – IV. You’ll need to provide your Customer Reference Number (CRN) and card expiry date. For more information, visit our Fees and Payments page
 
Living in Australia, on a temporary visa?
If so, you don’t need to apply for a Green ID, instead follow these steps:
  1. Complete the application form that relates to your course
    1. Email enrolments@gordontafe.edu.au a copy of ONE of the following
      • International Passport
      • Immi Card
      • Convention Travel Document (Titre de Voyage)
      • Document for Travel to Australia (DFTTA)
      • VISA, if it includes student passport number

    If you don’t have enough ID or are not sure what to do, please call Customer Service on (03) 5225 0800 or email enrolments@gordontafe.edu.au to assist you find and supply the right ID.

    Step 3: Complete the online application

    You apply online, directly from the course page. Find your course here, then click APPLY.

    The online application will take you through the required steps. You’ll be asked questions about your educational background, goals, academic skill level and any requirements specific to your course.

    You’ll be asked questions around funding and what you would like to access. Make sure you review the fees section of your course to decide what is best for you. For more information on fees, visit Fees and Payments.

    The application form includes questions which require detailed written answers for some courses. We strongly advise using a desktop computer or large tablet to complete your application.

    If you don’t finish your application in one sitting, you can log back in later and complete it. If you need help, call Customer Service on (03) 1300 832 952 or email enrolments@gordontafe.edu.au.

    If you’re enrolling as an apprentice or trainee, you don’t apply through the course page. Instead, your employer will contact us and we’ll email your Student ID and password for you to log in and start the online application.

    Step 4: Complete the language, literacy & numeracy assessment 

    After you submit your online application, you will receive an email with a link to complete the Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment (LLN) or for diploma courses (VSL). The LLN / VSL is part of the application assessment process. The best way to prepare yourself is to practice some general mathematics, use the online practise tests, make sure you’re in a quiet space, and take your time.

    Please email admissions@gordontafe.edu.au if you would like to re-sit the LLN. They will advise if this is possible.

    Step 5: Wait & respond to any questions

    Once you’ve submitted the online application and Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment we will assess this information and contact you with any additional questions.

    Our courses can fill quickly, so it’s important to regularly check your email and respond quickly as we don’t want you to miss out. If you ever want to check the status of your application call Customer Service on (03) 1300 832 952 or email admissions@gordontafe.edu.au

    Step 6: Accept offer

    Once you’ve met all of your application requirements, you will receive an email with your offer. An SMS will be sent to advise this is ready for you to review. Be sure to secure your place in the course by accepting your offer by the nominated date.

    If you are an apprentice or trainee the process is different for you. You will be contacted with commencement information from your teaching area.
