Private accommodation

If you would like to live off-campus then we can help you with information on where to search for a vacant room and your rights and responsibilities when renting.

Private rentals require you to sign a lease with a real estate agent or directly with a landlord. Some places will be furnished but it is more common to rent an unfurnished apartment (also known as a unit or flat) or house.

Private rent ranges from AUD$120 - $150 per week for a single room in a share house. In share houses all housemates share the cost of common utilities like electricity, gas and water.

If you would prefer not to share with others and to rent a private apartment, unit or house then the average cost would be AUD$250 or more per week.

You can use the following websites to search for a vacant room in a share house. Just type ‘Geelong’ or ‘Werribee’ in the search bar of these websites to find available room notices:

Know your rental rights

Do not transfer any money or funds before you have signed a formal housing contract. Ask the Gordon International team at any stage of the contract signing process if there is anything you don’t understand. That’s what we are here for!

The Gordon International Team can help you with:

  • Filling out rental application forms
  • Understanding your rights and responsibilities as a tenant
  • Avoiding housing scams

We recommend that you watch this short two-minute video so that you understand what your rental rights and responsibilities are in Australia on YouTube here.
