Course description

The Certificate II in Work Education is designed to support post-compulsory school-aged learners with a permanent cognitive impairment / intellectual disability to develop employment-ready skills, knowledge, and behaviours. Through a blend of foundational and vocational training in both simulated and real workplace environments, learners are better equipped to enter the work force or undertake further studies.  

Learners will gain skills in 

  • job seeking and employability 
  • teamwork and communication 
  • use of technology 

This course is designed to improve employment outcomes and workplace skills.

Entrance requirements

  • Applicants must be 16 years and over at the time of course commencement.
  • Applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills at Year 10 or Year 11 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2.
  • Any student under the age of 17 must provide an Exemption from School form prior to undertaking the course.
  • Applicants must meet the following to be eligible to apply for this course: 
    • Evidence could include but is not limited to:  
    • Formal assessment by a registered medical practitioner  
    • Doctors / specialist reports  
    • Attendance at a Specialist School / SDS  
    • Integration support at school  
    • Integration support at school with modified curriculum. 
  • You must reside in Victoria to access Victorian Government Subsidised Fees and any incentive such as Free TAFE. Full fees apply to all non-Victorian residents.

Pre-training review

Each student must complete a pre-training review as part of their application. The outcome of your pre-training review assists our teachers and trainers to better understand your capabilities prior to training and enables you to be matched to the right program. Please note that the listed electives are delivered by The Gordon but you may not need to complete all of these units to successfully complete this qualification. If you have previously completed any of the units of competency relevant to this course, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT).   • Observations and practical demonstrations 
  • Portfolio (work samples)
  • Product (reports, projects, role plays etc) 
  • Workplace evidence
