If you're seeking a career that offers an excellent work-life balance, growth opportunities, and the chance to travel the world, a career in the hair industry might be just what you need. Whether you aspire to be a hairdresser or a barber, the hair industry can provide an ideal balance between work and personal life.

Studying a course in the hair industry offers a fulfilling career and provides universally accredited life skills. Imagine a career where you get to help others feel beautiful and confident while working in an ever-evolving industry.

The Gordon's Certificate III in Barbering students recently participated in a barbering pop-up event with MatchWorks, gaining real-world experience and an opportunity to give back to the community.

Brendan Chandler, Employer Engagement Partner at MatchWorks, shared, "Matchworks is delighted to highlight our collaboration with The Gordon TAFE in 2023 through the 'Free Haircuts Day' initiative delivered at 4 Matchworks locations within the Geelong region this year. The active participation of students, guided by Gordon TAFE Trainer Ben Pratt, has been instrumental in the program's success, enhancing the experience of our participants with disabilities as they re-enter the workforce."

Sean Williamson, a Gordon barbering student, shared, "Studying to be a barber has been a great experience. The best part is learning the skills, especially the scissor work. The experience with Matchworks is a win-win! A lot of people come out really enjoying it and loving the experience. They come in and leave feeling a million bucks and are really grateful."

Ben Pratt, barbering teacher at The Gordon, said, "There is a real demand for skilled barbers. Here at The Studio, we teach specialist barbering skills, including cutting, freehand clipper work, and facial hair maintenance."

Embarking on a career in hair can be daunting, but starting with a Certificate II in Salon Assistance sets you up with the foundational skills and knowledge needed for success. This comprehensive program equips you with the essential techniques and industry insights to enable you to excel in your craft and confidently pursue an apprenticeship.

Practical experience is, of course, the key to building your skills, and The Studio at The Gordon's City Campus is fully equipped to give students and customers alike the feeling of working in a real salon, with the keen eye of the Gordon teachers to guide and oversee the appointment.

With hands-on learning, students can work alongside experienced professionals, gain valuable insights, and hone their skills with real clients in a real work environment. This invaluable experience helps build confidence and develop practical skills.

"There has never been a better time to become a barber; we are always busy. And I am always so keen to pass on everything I know to the next generation of barbers," said Mr. Pratt.
