Benefactors support students' future careers

The Gordon has partnered with local businesses, individuals and charitable trusts to provide scholarships to support students with their studies.

Through The Gordon’s scholarship program, benefactors have generously donated more than $91,000 to assist 48 students with their course-related expenses, travel, and basic living costs. The much-needed financial assistance recognises students’ accomplishments, initiative and leadership.

Colin Hatcher, Executive Director of Student Experience at The Gordon, stated, “Increasing the equity of access to vocational education and training, and to the inclusive practices that promote better pathways to further study and employment, we transform lives.”

“Our benefactors are a wonderful group of individuals and organisations that understand that doors are opened when opportunity and self-belief collide. As such, their ability to facilitate access to education to everyone in our community is a gift and allows our students to achieve their career ambitions.” 

Mackenzie Sinclair, studying for a Diploma of Nursing at The Gordon, received one of six $5,000 scholarships from The George Alexander Foundation. The Foundation partners with higher education institutions across Australia to offer scholarships that recognise talent, leadership potential and commitment to the community. 

“The scholarship was important in allowing me to continue my Diploma of Nursing. Due to being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder, I have been wheelchair-bound this year. Throughout my recovery, the support from students and the team at The Gordon has surprised me, and I have been lucky enough to be awarded one of the George Alexander Foundation scholarships, which has truly kept me going,” said Mackenzie.

The ongoing support provided through a scholarship allows students facing hardships to achieve their study goals and realise their career ambitions.
