Course description

Do you have a young person aged 15 years or over with special learning needs or learning difficulties? This unique program provides the support and skills needed to gain employment or progress to further study. It also offers students the opportunity to meet and interact with new people, build confidence and further their language and communication skills. This course is full-time to give students the best opportunity to gain skills for employment or further education.

This course is a dual qualification. You will also need to apply for 22567VIC Certificate I in Transition Education.

Entrance requirements

  • Applicants must be 15 years and over at the time of course commencement.
  • Any student under the age of 17 must provide an Exemption from School form prior to undertaking the course.
  • To be eligible to apply for this course applicants must have:
    •  a diagnosed learning disability and/or
    •  have received special education assistance, or have had a modified program at school
  • Applicants must present evidence of learning disability, or modified school program prior to enrolment.
  • You must reside in Victoria to access Victorian Government Subsidised Fees and any incentive such as Free TAFE. Full fees apply to all non-Victorian residents.

Pre-training review

Each student must complete a pre-training review as part of their application. The outcome of your pre-training review assists our teachers and trainers to better understand your capabilities prior to training and enables you to be matched to the right program. Your literacy and numeracy skills will be evaluated and you may be required to undertake a separate assessment. Follow this link for more information about literacy and numeracy skills.

Selection mode

  • Interviews are conducted with applicants; if the applicant is under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must be present, to ensure the content and expectations of the course are understood. The applicant’s suitability for study is also discussed.
  • Applicants who can demonstrate motivation to work, the ability to relate to others and who are sufficiently mature to cope with work will be given preference.

Please note that the listed electives are delivered by The Gordon but you may not need to complete all of these units to successfully complete this qualification. If you have previously completed any of the units of competency relevant to this course, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT).
