What is Read&Write?

Read&Write is a free literacy support tool that offers help with tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, researching assignments and proofing written work.  It is available to all students at staff at The Gordon.

User Guides, video tours and learning materials are available on via Read&Write.

 

 

How to access Read&Write

On Gordon computers (library / computer labs)

Read&Write is already installed on all desktop computers at The Gordon.

Click on the Read&Write shortcut on the desktop to sign in using your Gordon username and password.

 

On your own device 

If you use Office365, including OneDrive and Microsoft online, add the Read&Write Extension (Google Chrome or in Edge) and signin using your Gordon user name and password.Follow these instructions on how to download and use the extensions.

To use Read&Write for anything other than Office 365 (e.g. desktop version of Word)install Read&Write for Windows following the steps below.

  1. Go to the Read&Write website

  2. Click on button  “Try Read&Write” and select the version that you would like to install (Windows, Android, iPad, Mac, Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome)

  3. Once downloaded, open Read&Write on your computer and click on Read&Write tab at the top of your screen. If it is the first time using it, you will be prompted to authenticate. To do this, select “sign in with Microsoft” and sign in using your Gordon username and password.

  4. You will then be prompted to install the Support for Read&Write Desktop extension which you will need to using in a Chrome browser.  Once the extension has been installed, refresh your tabs and you’ll be able to use Read&Write in Google Chrome.
