Is there a cost to use the Skills & Jobs Centre? (SJC)

There’s no cost - our services are completely free for all our clients. And there’s no limit on how many times you can come to see us!

What services does the SJC offer?

We offer a wide range of services for different needs – workshops on resume writing, interview skills and job search strategies; one-to-one appointments with qualified career advisors; and information about study or training.

Do I have to be unemployed to access the SJC?

Anyone from the community is welcome to contact us, whether you’re unemployed, thinking about changing your career or going back to study, needing advice about a job application – in fact, we can help you at any stage of your career!

Can I get information about study or training at places other than the Gordon?

Our career advisors focus on you as an individual and provide completely independent advice about your best options. However, we do have good knowledge of The Gordon’s programs, if that’s what you’re looking for.

Does the SJC have job vacancies?

Because we’re connected with local industry and business in Geelong and Wyndham, employers contact us about vacancies, which we advertise on our online portal CareerHub. We’re not a recruitment agency or a jobactive.

I’m confused about this thing called CareerHub – what is it?

CareerHub is your one-stop shop for everything career-related at the SJC. Click here to find out how to access CareerHub. Once you’ve followed these steps, you’ll be able to log in anytime to see job opportunities with local employers and some great resources, or to book into upcoming events.

What do I need to prepare for my appointment?

After booking your appointment with us (phone or Zoom), you’ll get an email with some useful links and resources to read in advance. If you have a resume, email it to skillscentre@gordontafe.edu.au to give the advisor more detail about your work background. Or you can choose to have a Zoom appointment which will enable you to share your resume on screen with the advisor. If you’ve never had a resume, don’t panic – we can help you with this too!

Does the SJC have interpreters?

We don’t have interpreters on-site but we can easily arrange one if you let us know in advance. We also have access to Auslan interpreters.

Employers

I’m an employer looking for an apprentice – does the SJC have an online jobs board?

Yes, you can advertise any job or apprenticeship vacancy on our online portal CareerHub - and there’s no cost! You can link to CareerHub through our website, or phone 5225 0700 or email skillscentre@gordontafe.edu.au to get more details.

I’m recruiting for the summer season – can I advertise with the SJC?

All job vacancies – full-time, part-time, seasonal, casual – can be advertised on CareerHub, for free. You can link to CareerHub through our website, or phone 5225 0700, or email skillscentre@gordontafe.edu.au to get more details.

Can I promote my vacancy directly to The Gordon’s students?

Yes, we can do this for you! As well as a listing on CareerHub, we also email students and relevant program coordinators to let them know about new job opportunities.

Does the SJC advertise volunteer opportunities?
